FALL IS HERE!!  My lesson plans can be found below. October is a FUN month to start talking about leaves changing colors, trees losing their leaves, apples and pumpkins, scarecrows, bats and spiders, and IF you are brave – monsters (friendly) and Halloween! One of our favorite things to start toward the middle of October and go right on through the end of the month is “Senses and emotions!” Two of our most popular books this time of year are:

GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER and  GLAD MONSTER, SAD MONSTER

Actually, ALL of Ed Emberley’s books are fun, interactive and educational.

Don’t do Halloween?  That’s OK!

We don’t really “do” Halloween either!  It’s just a great time of year to let the kids know that the things they are probably seeing in the stores and the “monsters” or other scary masks and costumes AREN’T real!!  It gives them power over being scared by teaching them, “Go Away! You don’t scare me!”

GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER! is a fantastic way to practice bravery!  Kids get the opportunity to say, “GO AWAY!” several times to each part of the face.  “Go away big yellow eyes!”

We have SO much fun with this one!

GLAD MONSTER, SAD MONSTER is all about emotions and describes situations in which we feel each emotion. Sometimes we can’t think of circumstances where a child might feel, sad, glad, angry, loving, etc.  Like what can we think of for an example for “silly” while on the spot?  These are the times I’m fumbling around and I say things like, “when someone says something funny.” Not my most shining moment!

Glad, sad, silly, mad – monsters have all kinds of different feelings! In this innovative die-cut book kids can try on funny masks as you walk through the wide range of moods all little monsters (and kids!) experience.

Yes, the masks are included!!  A fun, interactive way to explore the many different ways we feel!

Here is another fabulous book to read in early ed to get interaction and a lot of laughing!

There’s a Monster in Your Book is an interactive fun story with a friendly, playful monster!  Kids shake, blow, wiggle, tickle and more as they try to get the monster OUT!

A few great “must have” items for any early childhood classroom!  PERFECT for Special Needs kids!

COLORED VELCRO DOTS!!!  Color coordinate items to match, to retell stories and more…

5 SENSES LEARNING KIT!  Making our own cost us more than this! Add to the science area, use in large group, work in small groups….

Let me know what you do for Fall and how you introduce emotions and the 5 senses.  I love getting new ideas!

Here are the Lesson plans I use for “GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER” and being brave!
